But what, exactly, is this crazy little thing called love? And why the hell are we even bothering to look for it?
Maybe, in the words of Jerry Maguire, it’s the sense of completion that this other person gives.
Or maybe it’s just our way of making animal attraction sound civilized.
A friend of mine believed she was independent when it came to her relationship with her boyfriend, but once they’d taken a break, she came to realize how dependent she’d become of him. So maybe that’s another term for love: the trust and dependence we place on someone.
Some look at love as giving everything they have into the relationship, while others believe it is a selfish notion where everyone fights for their own.
Some say it’s complicated. I suppose if something was worth anything, it would take effort, wouldn’t it?
Maybe what we’re looking for is comfort, and calling it love. Who really knows?
But the one thing I think it shouldn’t do is make you miserable. Unhappy occasionally, sure, since nothing is ever perfect. But if you’re miserable, isn’t there something sorely wrong with it?
Love, love is strange
Many people take it for a game
Once you've had it, you're in an awful fix
'Cause after you've had it
You never want to quit
