12 hours into 2008

I'm well aware about the state of my updating skills with regards to this blog, so I'm not going to say things like I'll try to keep updating because we both know I won't. Since today is the first day of the new year, I figure it warrants some kind of message. Plus I was just reading Marina's blog and her faithful updating impressed me enough to attempt something. Haha.

Thus far, 2008 is turning out to be not too bad. Ushered in the new year at sa's place with board games, pizza, Bailey's and assorted alcoholic beverages. And with alcohol comes...drinking games. Haha what a way to start the new year, acting like monkeys (nick) and pigs (spens) and elephants (me and sa).

But that's not how I'm going to spend the rest of the year (or at least I should hope not.)

The first six months of 2008 will be a step into the working industry for me (and most of my CS friends). I haven't been exactly optimistic about it given the things I've heard about Mediacorp as an internship employer, but I've decided that I need to change that viewpoint. Y'know. Positive thinking and all that self-help crap. For 2008, I fervently hope that I don't get too disheartened by this whole experience, and instead will be able to take a life lesson from it.

Apart from my own personal progress in terms of work, I'm also looking forward to working with Rishi, Daisy and Vanessa for the motherlode of our uni life. I think the December project helped to iron out some kinks, and gave us a good sense of each other. Plus I'm pretty sure that we all have strengths that complement each other, and we've all agreed on the good balance we have between the creative and technical. Although our ideas are still at the sketchy-and-completely-not-thought-out stage, we've got foundations laid. Hopefully this means a promising start to our fourth year and the second half of 2008.

On the leisure side of life (which will probably be significantly lesser in 08 than in 07), I'm making plans already, starting with: THE SWITCHFOOT CONCERT ON JAN 31ST!!!!! Yay! Can't believe that one of my most favourite bands ever will be performing in 30 days! *Fingers and toes crossed that nothing crops up on the 31st*

Also, I've decided that I've been getting too caught up with schoolwork these past few years, so I'm planning to go back to Speech and Drama and get my Assoc Licentiate degree. I'll see how my work schedule goes after the first couple of weeks, then get in touch with Keat about it.

In addition, it's back to picking up the life skill known as driving. Sighs. I'm sure all of you are well aware of my pains when it comes to this. Let's hope 2008 is THE year for me finally getting that damned license.

With most of my friends at internship/clinics/pupilage/banks/whatevers this year, I'm getting an idea of what life will be like ten years down the road. Maybe we're still a little less cynical, still a little more childish, with prettier views of the world for now. But in years to come this will probably be us. So a 2008 resolution is to make sure we don't drift away and become those sad people who only have colleagues and NO friends. Remember people: it's good to have a life outside of work. Haha.

Aside from all the physical things, I'm hoping to have a better disposition this year. I think I've become a whiny, grouchy, lazy ditz over the years, and I'm sorry to all of you who put up with my nonsense. Feel free to tell me to shaddap. I'll try to be more patient, more tolerant and more considerate.

So. 12 hours and 25 minutes into 2008. Here's looking to a better 365 days, 11 hours and 35 minutes more. :)
